Business Support

In Australia, small businesses make up around 97 per cent of all businesses. They really are the backbone of our economy.

As a small business owner, getting all your ducks in a row can be exhausting. When you’re juggling sensitive staff issues and supporting their mental wellness on top of your own workload, your ducks will be struggling to keep their head above water. Constantly putting out fires and neglecting business priorities can leave you stretched thin and overwhelmed.

But you don't have to do it alone. Deb Rae Solutions is the game-changer you're looking for to keep your staff working well and get you back to growing your business. Here’s how.

Workplace Wellness Checklist

When employees feel safe and supported at work, they can do their job well, get satisfaction from their work and want to turn up every day. It also improves staff attraction and retention, productivity and your organisation’s financial sustainability.

Find out how to establish a Workplace Wellness Plan for your organisation with this free checklist.

Why does Workplace Wellness matter?

Workplace wellness is about supporting your employees to be psychologically and mentally healthy. This allows them to do their job well, get satisfaction from their work and want to turn up every day. It also allows the business to improve staff attraction and retention, productivity and financial sustainability.

Mental health concerns are not a fad and won’t just go away. Men and women are facing difficulties every day (often unspoken) and workers expect managers to provide work environments that support their psychological safety.

As more and more employees choose worker-friendly employers who take workplace wellness seriously, gaps in other organisations will become bigger and harder to fill.

Thank you so much for the support you have provided over the last 12 months. You have always maintained such a professional way of working as well as being approachable and real.

psychosocial hazards code of practice

From 1 April 2023, every Qld business is expected to comply with the new Psychosocial Hazards Code of Practice. This includes:

  • Conducting meaningful consultation with staff so practical and effective policy and procedure framework can be established

  • Implementing processes that make sense in your business - there is no ‘one size fits all’ fix

  • Taking a collaborative approach across the whole organisation, rather than relying solely on HR or WHS roles

  • Conducting a risk assessment and implementing strategies and controls to minimise or eliminate risk

The expert team at Deb Rae Solutions can support you to integrate psychological safety practices that meet legislative requirements and improve staff attraction, retention and productivity rates.

FAQs

  • Understanding how to respond to a person with mental wellness concerns largely involves listening and questioning rather than having expert knowledge or providing advice. These skills can be learned like any other communication skill, with support from a professional and skilled facilitator. Deb has worked in suicide prevention and completed ASIST and safeTALK training. Significant mental health concerns would be referred to a clinical professional.

  • All employees have a right to a workplace that is psychologically safe. From 1 April 2023, Qld businesses are also required to comply with the Psychosocial Hazards Code of Practice, under the Work Health and Safety Act.

Apart from compliance requirements, employers who support staff wellness are more likely to attract and retain employees, which reduces costs and increases productivity.

  • Employee Assistance Programs can support staff members who are dealing with a current, urgent concern. However, these services can have a wait list and workers may be reluctant to talk with a stranger or struggle to make a connection with them. They may also have concerns about confidentiality.

    • Deb Rae Solutions’ mental wellness programs:

    • Provide a crucial step before EAP

    • Pre-empt concerns before they become a crisis

    • Build a worker's capacity to deal with issues as they arise

    • Build ongoing resilience

  • Deb Rae Solutions' programs are a fraction of the cost (in time and finances) of dealing with ongoing and unpredictable staff crises, lost productivity and recruitment and training of new workers.
